7-Day Itinerary for Exploring Chile: Santiago and San Pedro de Atacama

Are you planning a trip to Chile and looking for an adventure? Look no further! This 7-day itinerary will take you to two of the most stunning regions in the country: Santiago and San Pedro de Atacama. As a frequent traveler to Chile, I’ve curated this itinerary based on my personal experience, so you can be sure you’ll get the most out of your trip.

Day 1-3: Santiago

On the 1st day

Start your trip in Santiago, the bustling capital city of Chile. Spend your first day exploring the historic center of the city, including the Plaza de Armas, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Chilean Museum of Pre-Columbian Art. Take a walk through beautiful parks like Parque Forestal and Cerro Santa Lucia, which offer a great view of the city.

On the 2nd day

Head to the charming neighborhood of Barrio Italia, famous for its colorful buildings, vintage shops, and art galleries. Here you can visit the local market, have a cup of coffee in a cozy cafe, and shop for unique souvenirs.

On the 3rd day

For your last day in Santiago, take a day trip to the nearby vineyards in the Casablanca Valley, just an hour’s drive from the city. You can learn about the winemaking process and sample some of the best Chilean wines.

Day 4-7: San Pedro de Atacama

On the 4th day

On day four, fly from Santiago to Calama and then take a short drive to San Pedro de Atacama, an otherworldly desert town located in the heart of the Atacama Desert. Spend the next three days exploring the stunning natural wonders of the area.

On the first day, visit the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) and witness the stunning rock formations, sand dunes, and salt flats. You can also enjoy a breathtaking sunset here.

On the 5th day

Wake up early and visit the El Tatio Geysers, one of the highest-elevation geyser fields in the world. Witness the stunning spectacle of steam rising from the geysers against the backdrop of the Andes Mountains.

On the 6th day

For your last day in San Pedro de Atacama, visit the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile. Here you can witness flamingos, salt formations, and lagoons. You can also visit the town of Toconao, famous for its colonial architecture and handicrafts.

On the 7th day

Fly back to Santiago to catch your flight home or to your next destination.

This 7-day itinerary is the perfect way to discover the highlights of Chile, from the vibrant city life of Santiago to the otherworldly landscapes of San Pedro de Atacama. Book your trip now and get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
